Vieux Château Certan 2004

“This stunning blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc boasts a dense ruby/purple color along with a big, sweet bouquet of black cherries, licorice, roasted herbs, smoke, and cassis. Elegant, medium to full-bodied, pure flavors reveal moderately high tannin, but superb concentration and richness. Vieux Chateau Certan should be one of the longer-lived and most complex wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.”  – 93+/100, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

2004 | Vintage | Vieux Château Certan

Vieux Château Certan combines savoir-faire with exceptional soils. Coming mainly from the vineyard’s oldest vines, Vieux Château Certan is every year a blend of the most excellent lots produced at the estate. The brilliance of the wine’s hue, the richness of its aromas and the subtlety of its flavour bring it inimitable style.

The wines of Vieux Château Certan possess natural concentration and require a few years’ cellaring before the first bottles can be opened. As with the greatest Bordeaux wines, they can be enjoyed after 10 to 15 years of age.

«The brilliance of the wine’s hue, the richness of its aromas and the subtlety of its flavour bring it inimitable style.»

With 2004, we benefited from the type of weather cycle which shapes a great vintage, with no shortage of water or periods of excessive heat or cold.

The grapes picked between September 20 and October 6 were vinified separately according to their respective varieties. The resultant wines were then left to mature in new oak barrels for 18 months. The final blend consisted of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.

On the lines of the 2000 vintage, the Vieux Château Certan 2004 is an extremely classic wine, markedly Cabernet Franc, remarkable by its balance, concentration and wealth of aromas. It is the perfect expression of the best wines produced by the Right Bank in 2004.

“It will be the perfect accompaniment for grilled fish or white meat.”  – Alexandre Thienpont
