Dense, deep red in colour. The flavours are fresh wild berry, mulberries and other dark fruits. French oak integrates with the fruit and lend a savoury spice nuance without dominating. Barossa Valley Shiraz | Range | Eisenstone Wines
Celebrating the rich German heritage of the Barossa Valley, the name Eisenstone comes from a blend of the German word for iron – Eisen and the English – Stone. Our name celebrates the Ironstone soils in which the vines grow and the stone used by the original German settlers to build much of the famous Barossa buildings that still stand to this very day. Our aim is to establish ourselves as specialists of Barossa Valley shiraz, the icon variety of the Barossa Valley which is recognised worldwide. Within the Valley there are a number of recognised sub regions that vary in climate and soil type and bring out subtle differences in the variety.
Eisenstone creator and winemaker Stephen Cook secures special parcels of grapes from the ‘western ranges’ of the famous Barossa Valley which are renowned for producing fuller bodied, powerful wines with amazing depth of flavour and exceptional aging ability to make his wines released under the Eisenstone label. Limited volumes of each wine are produced in any given vintage, each individually numbered.
Greenock Shiraz – Terrior
Greenock is higher in elevation than regions to the east and wetter than regions to the north. The soils are predominantly deep red-brown earths which shallow on the hills and ironstone is wider spread.
Greenock Shiraz – The wines
The shiraz from Greenock is very dark in colour, flavours are dark fruits such as black cherries, blackberries and plum. The wines tend to be full bodied and rounded in their tannins. They are often described as complete wines, structured and starting to take on the muscular character or wines coming from regions to the north.
