“This is a very elegant medium-bodied wine that has soaked up the new oak without hesitation, leaving the fresh fruit flavours free to depart from the normal Barossa Valley black spectrum and explore red berry flavours. The tannins are fine, the wine showing no sign of bottling one month before tasting.” – 97/100, #Best of the Best, James Halliday Wine Companion 2021

Barossa Valley Shiraz | Range | Eisenstone Wines

Celebrating the rich German heritage of the Barossa Valley, the name Eisenstone comes from a blend of the German word for iron – Eisen and the English – Stone. Our name celebrates the Ironstone soils in which the vines grow and the stone used by the original German settlers to build much of the famous Barossa buildings that still stand to this very day. Our aim is to establish ourselves as specialists of Barossa Valley shiraz, the icon variety of the Barossa Valley which is recognised worldwide. Within the Valley there are a number of recognised sub regions that vary in climate and soil type and bring out subtle differences in the variety.

Eisenstone creator and winemaker Stephen Cook secures special parcels of grapes from the ‘western ranges’ of the famous Barossa Valley which are renowned for producing fuller bodied, powerful wines with amazing depth of flavour and exceptional aging ability to make his wines released under the Eisenstone label. Limited volumes of each wine are produced in any given vintage, each individually numbered.

Single Vineyard Ebenezer Shiraz – Terrior
Ebenezer is one of the warmest and driest of the subregions. However, the region is one of the highest and furthest from the sea making for cooler winters and a shorter growing season. The soils are predominantly ironstone over fine red clays.

Single Vineyard Ebenezer Shiraz – The wines
The wines from this region are known for their ageing ability. They tend to be bigger and more robust than regions to the south and flavours tend to be in the riper spectrum of fruitcake, plum and mulberry.
