OUT OF STEP SYME ON YARRA SHIRAZ 2014
Out of Step
Syme on Yarra Shiraz 2014
Classic cool climate Shiraz. Delicious. Savoury, spicy, stemmy; a little brown licorice, balsamic reduction (80% whole bunches if that level of input flicks your switch). Medium bodied, easy going, juicy – it kind of races across the palate and backs up the juice with some stemmy, twiggy, nutty notes. Finishes well, a little gentle grip.

Winery | Of | Out of Step Wine Co.
Out of Step is the micro virtual winery of David Chatfield and Nathan Reeves. Nathan is currently in Tasmania on a sabbatical from the business, while David continues to work on the label as well as helping to look after the vineyards at Oakridge. Along the way they have variously chalked up experience at Stella Bella (Margaret River), Lusatia Park (now owned by De Bortoli), Sticks Yarra Valley and Vinify (California). Their initial foray was a Sauvignon Blanc from the acclaimed Willowlake Vineyard (Yarra Valley), a Chardonnay from Denton View Hill Vineyard (Yarra Valley) and a Nebbiolo from the Malakoff Vineyard in the Pyrenees.
This deliciously juicy Yarra Valley Shiraz is no exception. Yarra Valley is one of Australia’s finest and certainly most underrated Shiraz growing regions, the perfume, finesse and freshness that the leading examples display.
This excellent Syme on Yarra vineyard in Gruyere, and is made in a very gentle, hand-off fashion. Hand-picked fruit, 80% whole bunches, wild yeasts, open top fermenters, old oak, unfined and unfiltered with basically no additions – this is pure, vibrant, joyful Shiraz juice left to do its thing.
