MÉO-CAMUZET VOSNE-ROMANÉE 1ER CRU LES CHAUMES 2016
Méo-Camuzet
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Les Chaumes 2016
“A ripe, pretty and attractively layered nose combines notes of spiced tea and red currant with those of lavender and sandalwood. The agreeably textured medium-bodied flavors possess a relatively open mid-palate that, together with the enveloping finish, should allow this to be approachable young if that’s your fruit preference but also reward up to a decade of aging. This is very Chaumes in basic character.” – 90-92/100, Burghound
VARIETIES: Pinot Noir
REGION: France / Bourgogne / Côte de Nuits / Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
AGEING: In casks, its development depends on the vintage; but generally speaking, it remains a wine that can be assessed fairly early, and which rapidly gives you an idea of the general character of a year

Overview | Of | Domaine Méo-Camuzet
One of the best known symbols of Burgundy, Domaine Méo-Camuzet was founded at the beginning of the last century by Étienne Camuzet (member for 30 years of the French Parliament). Mr. Camuzet slowly built the Estate by purchasing some of Burgundy’s most exceptional vineyards, most notably in the Clos de Vougeot. As of 1985, the estate began selling under its own label, directly from the cellars. All the appellations of the domain are harvested and vinified by Meo Camuzet. Jean-Nicolas Méo is in charge of the Estate. Henri Jayer advises him on winemaking and Christian Faurois is vineyard manager.
Jean-Nicolas Méo took over running Domaine Méo-Camuzet in 1989, continuing the work of his father, Jean. He is now responsible for the polished, opulent and intense wines which are sought after the world over. He has also established a successful négociant business, Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs, in collaboration with his sisters which allows them to produce a broader and more accessible range of Burgundies. Prior to Jean-Nicolas’s arrival, and for much of the 20th century, the vineyards had been rented out to tenant farmers, including Burgundian legend Henri Jayer. It was only when Jean-Nicolas took the reins that the estate began bottling their own wines. Méo-Camuzet has 14 hectares of prime, organically farmed (although not certified) vineyards in some of the most prestigious parts of the Côte de Nuits. They own almost five hectares of enviable grands crus split over six sites, including Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Echèzeaux, Clos Rognet, Corton Les Perrières, and Corton La Vigne au Saint.

Les Chaumes
At the foot of “la Tâche” and “les Malconsorts”, in a slightly deeper clay soil, we have the good fortune to possess two plots of a total surface area of about 4 acres. With its classic eastward orientation and good supply of water, it is a fairly “solar” vineyard which cannot be considered as a late ripener.
